Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds frozen tater tots
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the onion is translucent.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cooked meat mixture, cream of mushroom soup, milk, and 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Spread the meat mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  6. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the meat mixture.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  9. Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a crispy tater tot topping, pre-bake the tater tots for 15-20 minutes before assembling the casserole. This will ensure a perfect texture. You can also experiment with different types of cheese or add additional vegetables to the filling for more flavor.
